🌍 African & Caribbean Family Fun Day in Newcastle: Food, Culture, Music and Community at Nuns Moor Park.

African & Caribbean Family Fun Day Newcastle | Food, Culture & Community at Nuns Moor Park

🌍 African & Caribbean Family Fun Day in Newcastle: Food, Culture, Music and Community at Nuns Moor Park

Some of the best experiences do not always require a flight, a hotel booking, or a long-distance journey. Sometimes, culture, community and unforgettable memories are waiting right in your own city.

On Sunday, 2 August 2026, I had the opportunity to attend a lively African and Caribbean family fun day at Nuns Moor Park in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The event, tagged #FoodAndCulture, was hosted by Jollof Food Newcastle and brought together families, local businesses, food lovers, football enthusiasts and members of Newcastle’s diverse African and Caribbean communities for a full day of celebration.

And yes… I even managed to win something in the raffle draw. More on that later. 😄

🎥 Watch My Full Food & Culture Experience

🌳 Why Nuns Moor Park Worked So Well for the Event

Nuns Moor Park provided the perfect backdrop for a community celebration like this.

The open green space gave families room to relax, children space to enjoy games, and organisers plenty of space for food, competitions, traders and entertainment.

The park sits within one of Newcastle’s most diverse communities, making it a natural setting for an event celebrating African and Caribbean food, culture and togetherness.

🍲 Food Was at the Heart of the Day

You cannot really have an African or Caribbean community celebration without food taking centre stage.

And this event understood the assignment.

The food competition brought plenty of excitement, with participants showcasing flavours, recipes and creativity while guests enjoyed the atmosphere.

The winners did not leave empty-handed either — hamper packs were presented as prizes, adding another fun layer to the competition.

Food has always been more than something we eat. It carries memories, family traditions, identity and culture. Events like this give people the opportunity to share those stories through taste.

⚽ Football Competition: Community Rivalry With a Smile

Football brought another level of energy to the day.

Friendly competition, cheering spectators and community spirit created exactly the kind of atmosphere you want from a summer family event.

It was competitive enough to be exciting but still carried the relaxed, friendly feel of a proper community gathering.

🎶 Music, Fun and Games

Music helped keep the entire event alive.

Between the food, football and conversations, there was always something happening.

Families were able to enjoy games, entertainment and plenty of moments where people could simply relax, laugh and enjoy one another’s company.

That combination of music, food and community is what gave the day its real personality.

🛍️ Supporting Local Businesses Through the Trade Fair

One part of the event I particularly appreciated was the presence of local branded vendors.

The trade-fair element gave independent businesses and entrepreneurs the chance to showcase their products and connect directly with members of the community.

That matters because events like this are not only about entertainment. They also create visibility for local brands and provide opportunities for networking, collaboration and community-based business growth.

🎁 And Then Came the Raffle Draw...

Now for one of my personal highlights. 😂

The event also included a raffle draw, and somehow my number came up!

So yes, your Dee3Concepts traveller went to enjoy the food and culture and ended up going home with a hamper pack as well.

Not a bad Sunday at all!

Moments like that are exactly why community events can be so memorable. You arrive expecting to watch and enjoy, then suddenly you become part of the story.

🤝 More Than an Event: A Celebration of Community

What stood out most was the sense of connection.

African and Caribbean families, local businesses, children, football players and visitors all came together in one space.

Events like this provide opportunities for different generations to enjoy culture together while also allowing the wider Newcastle community to experience food, music and traditions in an informal, welcoming environment.

It was a reminder that culture becomes more powerful when it is shared.

🌍 Why Events Like This Matter in Newcastle

Newcastle is home to people from many different cultural backgrounds, and community events create opportunities for those cultures to be celebrated visibly and positively.

Food festivals, music events, family days and cultural gatherings help people meet, exchange experiences and discover businesses they might never otherwise encounter.

For me, that is one of the best parts of exploring a city: not simply visiting buildings and attractions, but experiencing the people who give the city its character.

⭐ Dee3Concepts Event Verdict

  • 🍲 Food & Culture: Excellent
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family Friendly: Excellent
  • 🎶 Atmosphere: Lively and welcoming
  • Activities: Plenty of variety
  • 🛍️ Local Business Support: Strong
  • 🎁 Surprise Factor: Excellent — especially when you win the raffle! 😂

Final Verdict: The African and Caribbean Food & Culture Family Fun Day was a wonderful example of how food, music, sport, business and community can come together to create something genuinely enjoyable.

I would happily attend another event like this — although I cannot promise another raffle victory!
