In the vibrant heart of the Southern region of Nigeria, the ancient town of Ijebu Ode comes alive every year with pomp and splendour during the globally recognised Ojude Oba Festival. The term Ojude Oba translates to "the King’s Courtyard" in Yoruba, and this festival literally means “paying homage to the king.” It is an annual gathering that brings together sons, daughters, indigenes, tourists, cultural enthusiasts, and dignitaries to pay respect to the Awujale — the paramount ruler and king of Ijebuland.
Held usually on the third day after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Ojude Oba Festival has evolved from a modest royal homage to a flamboyant cultural carnival attracting thousands from within Nigeria and abroad.
