A Day in Hexham: Where History, Art, and Warm Hospitality Meet.

A Day in Hexham: Where History, Art, and Warm Hospitality Meet.

Earlier this May, I took a day trip to Hexham, one of Northumberland’s most charming market towns. Nestled along the River Tyne, Hexham offers a unique blend of heritage, creativity, and countryside warmth that leaves a lasting impression.

๐Ÿ› First Stop: The Heart of Hexham

The town centre greeted me with its inviting cobbled streets and picturesque architecture. From historic stone buildings to buzzing cafรฉs, Hexham’s energy is both peaceful and vibrant.

 A Hidden Gem: The Vault

The Vault bar is a must-visit for cocktail lovers. Located in a former bank vault, its underground vibe and curated drinks made it a standout experience on the trip.

๐ŸŽจ Creative Pause: Art Gallery & Supplies

The gallery and artist material shop was a paradise for creatives. Local artworks filled the space with inspiration, and I couldn’t resist browsing their collection of supplies.

Calm at the Garden Coffee House

The Garden Coffee House offered a perfect break. With its tranquil setting, fresh coffee, and sweet treats, it’s the kind of place where you lose track of time.

๐Ÿ•ฐ Hexham Old Gaol – A Step Into the Past

Exploring Hexham Old Gaol—England’s oldest purpose-built prison—was both chilling and fascinating. The interactive exhibits and preserved architecture are a history lover's dream.

๐Ÿฟ Film Nostalgia at Forum Cinema

Forum Cinema delivered that retro magic. Small, cosy, and full of character, it reminded me why independent cinemas are national treasures.

๐Ÿงบ Final Treat at Brocksbushes

On my way home, I stopped by Brocksbushes Farm Shop. With its farm-fresh produce, welcoming kitchen, and kid-friendly play barn, it’s a fantastic family-friendly destination in itself.

 Final Thoughts

Hexham is a town that deserves to be explored at your own pace. Whether you're into history, art, good food, or just beautiful scenery, it offers something for everyone.

If you're planning a Northumberland trip, make sure Hexham is on your itinerary. You won’t regret it!
